May 2008 Dear Friend and BC/EFA donor: Welcome to the online publication of BC/EFA’s Annual Report for fiscal year 2007 (October 1, 2006 – September 30, 2007). BC/EFA’s audited financial information, as well as important information about our ongoing support for The Actors Fund, our extensive national grant-making efforts and more, is now at your fingertips. We thank you for coming to our website and taking the time to read through the important information that follows.
Last year, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS overhauled its Annual Report, making it available exclusively on our website. This decision saved BC/EFA over $45,000 in design, printing and mailing costs.The online version of the Annual Report also reduced the number of staff hours required to research, compile, design, edit, revise and proof what had become a 72-page publication. It was determined that a publication of this size had become redundant and unnecessary, since the printed Annual Report duplicated much of the material regularly covered on the website and in BC/EFA’s newsletter, Behind the Scenes, which will continue to be published twice a year (in winter and summer editions) and is now BC/EFA’s primary publication. Staff efforts were redirected to additional online and website communication with our donors, supporters and volunteers, an increased emphasis on the design and content of the newsletter, and an even stronger focus on fundraising activities. Response has been very positive. Traffic to the BC/EFA website has increased, while the site has become an increasingly important fundraising engine for us, particularly for event tickets sales, online auctions and retail outreach. As a result of finding us on the internet, BC/EFA was also introduced to a significant number of new grantees, many of which have become a part of our national grant-making efforts. We hope that after reading the 2007 Annual Report you will return to the BC/EFA website often for the most current news on our fundraising and grant-making efforts, a wealth of pictures and new video clips, along with an assortment of profiles of volunteers and the organizations we fund. Our 2007 Annual Report also gratefully acknowledges three very generous groups of donors: Those who joined us as major donors, participating in The Angels Campaign; those who made gifts not related to any specific annual or one-time special event, and those who very graciously remembered BC/EFA through a bequest from their estates. We are also very grateful for the generous donations produced by the fundraising efforts of BC/EFA’s two affiliate organizations —Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA) and Classical Action.
